Music-Video: Pro-Trump *Unofficial* Pre-Election Day “Ad”! (1-min.)

Besides it just being a cool melody from Ye Old Days (originally the Beatles 1969), the video “ad” is not a “sorrowful plea” but a deeply heartfelt one since we are down to the wire!  In other words, Let’s not let Mr. Trump down as he has promised to not let us down!  (Besides the fact he worked his buns off for over a year practically non-stop.  I would have liked to have included at the end of the video a number total of ALL rallies from day one, total attendance for ALL of them, & total miles traveled.)

My other regret is I didn’t make the video loud enough on its own, so you may have to turn up your speakers.

Naturally I attempted to use the original Beatles’ version of “Don’t Let Me Down,” but YouTube “let me down” & muted it.  [I made my own self a copy with it, though, so Naa Naa! 😉 ] There’s really no comparison to the Beatles’ version, but these guys, The Acoustic Beatles Band, were the closest-best out of a dozen or so I watched, & with no copyright hassles.  And they did a great job with their “HEY!” & the “Please” section.  Trump almost looks like he is whistling “Please” in that media photo. 🙂

It is “So Rare” for well-known people, politicians or not, to actually expose “The Establishment” but Mr. Trump did just that in the included 5+ minute video speech clip “Trump The Establishment” (which originally came from a Reddit user, trumpeffect, per other copies of it on YouTube. He added some great background music to the speech itself which is worth hearing as well as the speech!)

I added a brief musical opening to it & then the full “SO RARE” Jimmy Dorsey 1957 clarinet-jazzy-snazzy instrumental at the end of the Trump speech. The Dorsey song begins at 5:40 along with miscellaneous Trump/Pence 2016 Campaign photos. Enjoy!

“So Rare” is a popular song published in 1937 by composer Jerry Herst and lyricist Jack Sharpe. It became a hit for Jimmy Dorsey in 1957.

The version by Carl Ravell and his Orchestra, from a session on 4 June 1937, may be the earliest recording of the song, although it is unclear whether it was the first released version. The earliest popular versions of “So Rare” were the 1937 releases by Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians and by Gus Arnheim and his Coconut Grove Orchestra.

Before it had been recorded or even published, Fred Astaire had sung “So Rare” on his radio show The Packard Hour. This was the recollection of Jess Oppenheimer, then a writer for the show, who recommended the song on behalf of his friend Jerry Herst, then an “aspiring songwriter”. According to Oppenheimer, this led to “So Rare” being “snapped up by a publisher who heard it on the program”.

Since 1937 “So Rare” has been recorded by numerous artists, but it notably became a late-career hit in 1957 for Jimmy Dorsey, reaching #2 on Billboard magazine’s pop charts. Recorded on 11 November 1956 and released on the Cincinnati label Fraternity, Jimmy Dorsey’s version, which had a decidedly rhythm and blues feel unlike the earlier versions, became the highest charting song by a big band during the first decade of the rock and roll era. Credited on the label to “Jimmy Dorsey with Orchestra and Chorus”, the vocals are by the Artie Malvin Singers. Billboard ranked this version as the No. 5 song for 1957.

Bio: Joseph Raymond “Ray” Conniff (November 6, 1916 – October 12, 2002) was an American bandleader and arranger best known for his Ray Conniff Singers during the 1960s… (which would have been when I first heard of “sing-a-long” bands like his & Mitch Miller’s.  Loved this stuff then & now, just good old fun clean music!)

One neat story Conniff tells, which explains the “no lyrics” in the above BRAZIL piece, is this:

“One time I was recording an album with Mitch Miller – we had a big band and a small choir. I decided to have the choir sing along with the big band using wordless lyrics. The women were doubled with the trumpets and the men were doubled with the trombones. In the booth Mitch was totally surprised and excited at how well it worked.” Because of the success of his backing arrangements, and the new sound Conniff created, Miller allowed him to make his own record, and this became the successful ’s Wonderful!, a collection of standards that were recorded with an orchestra and a wordless singing chorus (four men, four women). He released many more albums in the same vein, including ’s Marvelous (1957, gold album), ’s Awful Nice (1958), Concert in Rhythm (1958, gold album), Broadway in Rhythm (1958), Hollywood in Rhythm (1959), Concert in Rhythm, Vol. II (1960), Say It With Music (1960), Memories Are Made of This (1960, gold album), and ’s Continental (1962).

And what’s the big deal, anyway, re using jumbotrons in a huge arena? I guess Legum hasn’t been in a “megachurch” lately, nor any other large auditorium. Using jumbotrons is nothing out of the ordinary in such venues.

Can you imagine spending your whole life nit-picking to death every little thing about somebody you didn’t like? What kind of life would that be?
